Canadian-only · privacy & trust by design

Practice management your trust account can rely on.

Haly runs the whole firm — matters, time, billing and trust accounting — with security and trust-correctness built into the foundation. Fairer-priced, and made for Canadian firms.

No trust money touches the browser. Ever.

The platform

Everything a Canadian firm runs on

One calm, role-aware workspace — not ten disconnected tools.

Matters & contacts

Every matter carries multiple parties and roles, conflict screens, deadlines and a live activity trail — not a single client field.

Trust accounting

Per-client, per-matter ledgers that can never go negative and never commingle. Append-only entries, three-way reconciliation, period locking.

Time & billing

Timers and quick entry, realization at a glance, invoices on your operating rail with card payments built in.

Client portal

A constrained, separate trust zone where clients see their case, documents and balance — and nothing of anyone else’s.

Vault & documents

Matter-scoped document storage with the same deny-by-default access rules as the rest of the firm.

Insights

Collections, outstanding A/R, practice-area mix and realization — the numbers a firm owner actually checks on Monday.

Built for the whole firm

Everyone gets the right view

One permissioned platform tailored to each role — not a separate tool for every job.

Lawyers

Open matters with every party and deadline, capture time as you work, and authorize trust disbursements with a clear conscience.

Paralegals & clerks

Track limitation periods, prep documents and move matters forward — with access scoped to the files you’re actually on.

Bookkeepers

Run three-way reconciliation, lock closed periods, and export an audit-ready trail without chasing anyone for numbers.

Reception & intake

Log inquiries, run conflict checks and book the first call — the tidy front door to every new matter.

Your clients

A separate, locked-down portal where each client sees only their own case, balance and shared documents — and nothing else.

Security & compliance

Structural, not bolted on

The things that protect a firm — isolation, MFA, an honest audit trail, untouchable trust money — are part of how Haly is built, so they can’t be switched off or forgotten.

Deny-by-default isolation

Every table is tenant-scoped with row-level security forced on. No firm can read another firm’s data — it is structural, not a setting.

MFA that can’t be turned off

Multi-factor is mandatory for anyone who can touch trust, billing or client PII — enforced on the server, not hidden behind a button. Authenticator apps today; passkey sign-in is next.

Hash-chained audit log

Logins, role changes, trust transactions, exports and document access are written to an append-only, tamper-evident chain.

Trust money is sacred

Trust ledgers are append-only and immutable; corrections are reversals, never edits. A disbursement that would overdraw is rejected.

Canadian data residency

Your data lives in Canada (ca-central-1), engineered to the strictest Canadian privacy standard and applied to every firm — PIPEDA is the floor, not the target.

Built to the SOC 2 control set

The controls a SOC 2 audit tests — logical access, audit logging, change management — were engineered in from the first commit rather than bolted on before a sales call. The Type 2 report follows its observation window.

Why Haly

Made for Canadian firms, priced like it

The differences that matter when the books have to be right.

Canadian by construction

Not a US platform with a maple leaf bolted on. Your data stays in Canada, privacy is engineered to the strictest Canadian standard, and trust follows your law society’s rules.

Trust that can’t drift

The ledgers a law society audits are append-only and reconcilable to the cent. A disbursement that would overdraw a client simply can’t post.

One fair price, fully loaded

A single annual price per firm — trust accounting included, no per-seat math and no per-transaction skim on your trust deposits.

Calm by default

Security, MFA and tenant isolation are structural, so there are fewer switches to get wrong and one quiet workspace instead of ten browser tabs.

FAQ

Questions firms ask first

Is my data stored in Canada?+

Yes. Haly runs in the Canadian region (ca-central-1) and is engineered to the strictest Canadian privacy standard, with PIPEDA as the floor.

Which provinces do you support?+

Haly serves common-law provinces today, with province-aware trust accounting modelled on each law society (Ontario By-Law 9 is our reference). Quebec — with its civil-law regime and French-first requirements — is on our roadmap; we’re not there yet.

How does the trust accounting work?+

Haly follows provincial law-society rules (Ontario By-Law 9 is our reference model): per-client and per-matter ledgers, append-only entries that can never overdraw, corrections by reversal only, and monthly three-way reconciliation with period locking. Accounts are designated mixed (pooled) or separate interest-bearing; on a pooled account your bank remits the interest straight to the Law Foundation, so that money never passes through us.

Is trust accounting switched on for every firm?+

It is included in every plan, but you switch it on deliberately — and before it holds real client funds we walk your ledger and reconciliation through your province’s by-law with a legal bookkeeper. Trust money is a client’s money and a lawyer’s licence. We would rather be slow than sorry.

Do you support French?+

Haly is bilingual from the ground up — English and French — because privacy and accessibility require it, not as an afterthought.

Can I move over from another system?+

Yes. Whether you are on a legacy desktop program, a cloud tool or a stack of spreadsheets, we help you migrate matters, contacts and balances during onboarding so you start on solid books.

Who can see what?+

Roles are enforced on the server, never just hidden in the UI. Firm staff and portal clients are separate auth contexts, so a client can never enumerate other clients, staff or matters.
